Fanfare Samenakoa brassed a chilly backyard barbeque in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn last night. The groovy sound got us moving and warmed up a misty night.

Tight jazz players, with intermittent French rap, Samenakoa will be very busy in New York this week. Take a listen on their myspace page and check out their touring schedule.
If you prefer a straight view, instead of impressionistic views, well, okay then:

I will make sure to get at least one more listen before they leave!

Postscript: I did catch them after this party at Jalopy, in Red Hook, with Veveritse. They were even better and tighter!
And Veveritse was the best I'd ever seen them.

samenakoa torrents
thanks again!
i hope at the club shows they'll be selling some of these. i would rather the musicians get some small bit of money for their work.
well Damova
It is sad old story that pass through centuries..
How do musicians make money?
By having day jobs....
Normally artist/band gets a set percentage or rate per cd/album. In a lot of cases they may not make a penny on a single or ep. Theres not many labels who can afford to give an upfront. And theres no real money in this scene as a musician.
The dollars worth fuck all in britain so even if you sold a few 1000 in america you'd still need a day job. Theres probaly 10 acts who make a living form this scene.
Your big ion this scene if you can sell a 1000 in UK big indie acts have 1000 promos cds sent out per release and sell millions... This scene is tiny in sales and punters sadly..And the labels have tiny marketing budgets very few can afford to give their artists a single/promo video...):
So, free downloads are minor decreasing values than all of the sistem..
I am flute player, and I know how it works :))
i know, maryjane,
it is a difficult situation. i know many talented musicians around here who don't earn anything like what they are worth and work at dead-end jobs, as well as visual artists struggling. i am in a band that doesn't even try to make money, and am an artist who loses money!
i've collected tons of free legal (i think) downloads. still, it seems to me more ethical to pay these people if i have the opportunity, even if it does not make an impact. they are in new york and trying to earn enough to pay for their trip. their music appears to be self-released, so they don't have a label taking a share. if they offered the downloads, then i wouldn't have the plastic of the CD to be responsible for -- which is another issue besides the value of the creative project! i hope i don't sound like i am telling other people what to do, it is just what i want to do. i probably sound idealistic, but so be it, at least we can help each other by buying each other's albums and putting money in when the hat is passed.
i think i am rambling...
I agree
unfortunately according our standard most of people are just can't afford luxury by buying originals, and that's why torrent are very popular way of getting music, films, books, ect..
And do not worry, U don't sound idealistic...U just sound as an Artist :))
rgds...
hoping U will surprise us again with some interesting music blog :))
