Frank London, klezmer madman and general musical genius held a 50th birthday party at Drom last night. The bill had more bands than I could stick around for, including the Brian Mitchell Band (described as New Orleans funk from the Lower East Side of Manhattan), Scott Kettner & Maracatú New York (a tight Brazilian percussion ensemble with a powerful singer that wore us out on the dance floor) and more before I got there and after I finally left.

The birthday boy played a wild dance set with his Klezmer Allstars and most of his best friends jammed on to the stage...

...Including Patrick Farrell, extremely talented in his own right.

"Brotherhood Of Brass"
Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars feat. Boban Markovic Orkestar & Hasaballa Brass Band
"Thousands of years after the fall of the tower of Babel, Jews, Moors and Gypsies finally reunite here with masters of brass from New York, Cairo and the Balkans to celebrate the rediscovered traits of their common past. Sounds like a damn wild party."

Feat BobanMarkovic

the first time i saw frank london was at the knitting factory in new york in 20??, when he was touring with boban markovic. my friends and i were all wide-eyed and open-mouthed at boban markovic's orkestar. i remember saying to a friend that i might never hear again (foolishly, i was not wearing ear plugs), but if that was the last thing i heard, it might be worth it.
